Commissioner
Salim Adofo
Salim Adofo, a dedicated tenant organizer and community advocate, was elected Commissioner of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8C by his Congress Heights neighbors in 2018. His commitment to the community was further recognized in 2021 when his peers unanimously chose him to chair the commission.

Salim's work as a tenant organizer has not only significantly impacted the community but also brought about inspiring change. His provision of legal support and emergency rental assistance to over 800 families during the challenging times of COVID-19 has been a beacon of hope. His efforts have strengthened existing tenant associations and led to the formation of new ones, fostering a stronger sense of community throughout Ward 8.

Salim took action to respond to the community's concerns about the quality of education in Ward 8. He established the Ward 8 STEM Academy, a highly successful initiative that has been a game-changer in the education sector. The academy, which educates elementary and middle school students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts, has not only provided students with a strong foundation in these subjects but also fostered their critical thinking skills and taught them about conflict resolution.
During his tenure as a Commissioner, Salim has worked to improve traffic safety and infrastructure in Ward 8. Speed bumps have been installed near each school in his Single Member District through his efforts. The District Department of Transportation has been able to resurface various roads, fix potholes, and install raised sidewalks due to his coordination with the department. He also established the "Clean Ward 8" initiative as part of his environmental justice efforts. Through the initiative, he coordinates monthly community clean-up events at schools, parks, and recreation centers to ensure that Ward 8 students live in a clean and safe environment.
Salim's commitment to service extends beyond his community work. As a member of the United States Army, he served honorably during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His military service has instilled a sense of duty and discipline that he brings to his community work. Over the past few years, he has also served on the boards of the United Planning Organization and the National Society of Black Engineers.
